Has anyone ever tried the detox diet? Aka “master cleansing”?

Question by JAMAICAN GIRL: Has anyone ever tried the detox diet? Aka “master cleansing”?
The ingredients are laxative tea, cayenne pepper, maple syrup, distilled water, sea salt, lemon juice…all organic. I think it has different names too…but it cleanses your body and helps a lot of physical ailments..ever heard of it? Ever tried it? Let me know if it works.

    Jamaican Girl,

    Yes, I tried it.
    No, it doesn’t work.

Master Cleanse, or any of the cleansing diets, is a fraud. There simply is no way that a “cleansing” or a “detox” diet can help. You’ll lose mostly water at first while you’re on it, then some weight, but it’s lost in such a way that you’re sure to get it all back. I know this from experience. What weight you will lose you’ll lose because of cutting down on what you’re eating, which you can do without the expense and hype and useless requirements of this “diet.”

I finally lost weight for good when I became a vegetarian (I’m not saying that you should. I’m just saying that it takes that kind of change to lose weight permenantly, not just some diet or other) and started running. I now weigh what I did as a junior in high school, and I was pretty slim then.

The Master Cleanse diet is basically a starvation diet, which means that we can achieve the same thing by starving ourselves, and save money, too. The main trouble with starvation diets is that the body quickly adjusts to the lower calorie intake and slows its metabolism (yes, the cayenne pepper is supposed to keep metabolism up, but guess what–it doesn’t. Only calorie intake will do that). Then, when we go back to our original diet, the pounds lost come right back on.

Think about it–why maple syrup? Because it’s a source of calories, sugar. It sounds so very natural, being maple and all, but to your body, sugar in maple syrup is used just like sugar spooned onto your cereal or into your coffee. All of which is natural, too, since it comes from cane, sugar beet, or corn. Maple syrup is processed, too. I used to live in Wisconsin and went maple sugaring a few times with friends. Boiling the sap into the syrup is processing.

So you might as well eat sugar as drink maple syrup.

Now, why the lemon? Vitamin C, perhaps? But you might as well eat an apple, then. Why lemon? When mixed with the cayenne pepper, it’s a mild laxative.

    Woopee.

So you’re starving and taking laxatives, too. This is supposed to be “cleansing.” But you can achieve the exact same result by eating more fruit. The fiber is pure, it’ll displace whatever is in your intestine, and you’ll be just as “cleansed,” and you’ll have a lot more nutrients besides. You’ll be healthier.

Why do some people report being “refreshed” on the Master Cleanse diet? Simple–they drink more and they weigh a little less. I changed the way I eat after trying Master Cleanse (which didn’t work), and I weigh less and feel great. I am in a very real sense constantly refreshed, and without Master Cleanse.

    It’s a lot cheaper, too.

Now, here’s a question we need to consider:

What toxins is Master Cleanse supposed to remove? I haven’t found an answer to this. The word “toxins” is used, but what toxins are meant is never said. That means that “toxins” is like “boogeyman,” we have no idea what that is, we just know that it’s scary.

Well, like the “boogeyman,” “toxins” is a myth. There is absolutely no evidence that Master Cleanse removes any specific toxin–PCBs, mercury, pesticides–faster than the normal course of toxin removal that’s already built into your system, which is very good, indeed.

A much better way than Master Cleanse: eat less and move more. Exercise 45 minutes a day (even if it’s not all in one session), eat mainly vegetables and fruit, and cut out all junk food. If we eat a little less (300-500 calories less, which is really easy to do) and move a little more (45 minutes of walking is about two miles or 200 calories) is a calorie deficit of 500-700 calories, and guess what: you’ll lose weight.

And not have to worry about following (and paying for) the Master Starve program.

    Good luck.

Do not listen to eutychusagain she does not know what she is talking about, although I am sure that she means well and has had good luck with her vegetarian diet.

I suspect that when she tried the Master Cleanser she replaced the grade b maple syrup with another type of simple sugar syrup thinking that they are all the same.
(I am making this educated guess because she stated this herself in the above answer.)
Only maple syrup contains all of the minerals you need.

Some people try to substitute honey for the maple syrup and some of them have actually gained weight on the fast.

    * The Master Cleanser is NOT a starvation diet. If you do it correctly you get all of the vitamins and minerals you need for the duration of the fast.

That is why you use grade B organic syrup because it supplies all of the minerals you need and the Lemon juice and the Cayenne pepper supply all of the vitamins that you will need. This is how your metabolism keeps from slowing down.

Normally people will gain about half of the weight they lost during the fast back again if they go back to their same old unhealthy diet.

But my Sister lost 30 pounds in 10 days and not only kept it all off but is continuing to lose weight because she became a vegetarian after the cleanse.

The Master Cleanse does remove toxins ranging from heavy metals to residual drugs leftover in your system.

It also removes Mucoid plaque from your intestines that can cause a variety of diseases.

You begin to burn your stored fat cells that store certain drugs and poisons in them. This is why you must use the Senna tea and the salt water flushes to release the escaping poisons from your body.

** And Yes I Have Tried it several times with great success.

Most people lose 15 to 20 lbs in 10 days on the Master Cleanse.

Don’t let anyone tell you that this a fad diet. It has been around for nearly 60 years. This diet contains all of the vitamins and minerals you need for the duration of fast. And over the years it has helped thousands of people to get trim, healthy and live longer.
